While the saying “more isn’t always better” often rings true, it couldn’t be further from the truth when it comes to CBD – because when you use more CBD at once, you actually do see greater benefits.
Thanks to a little thing called bioavailability, not all of the CBD you ingest makes it into your bloodstream. Some is always lost during digestion. Therefore, the more CBD you ingest, the higher your bioavailability becomes as more CBD reaches your bloodstream. And while your bioavailability does naturally increase the longer you consistently use CBD, it can take weeks or even months to achieve the same level of bioavailability you could otherwise see from a single serving of high-potency CBD.
You probably have questions at this point but don’t worry, we have the answers:
- What does it mean when we say “high-potency”?
- Is there a difference between “CBD dosages” and “CBD potency levels”?
- If high-potency gummies contain THC, can they get you high?
- How many different kinds of high-potency CBD gummies are there?
- How much CBD is too much CBD?
- Is it possible to ingest a dangerous amount of CBD?
What Does “High-Potency” Really Mean?
The term “high-potency” probably sounds a lot more technical and intimidating than it actually is. In reality, high-potency simply refers to the strength of a particular product or formula. With “high-potency CBD” referring specifically to the CBD content, not how much THC it has.
In this case, that’s our brand new Full Spectrum CBD+THC Formula, with anywhere from 50 to 200 mg of CBD per serving and 2 to 4 mg of THC. Which, as you can see, doesn't actually contain all that much THC – and that’s across the board, including not just our full spectrum gummies but our tinctures, softgels, and tablets as well.
At cbdMD, we’ve increased the concentration of our full spectrum products for a few reasons.
- A higher CBD dosage automatically means greater benefits
- High-potency CBD has a higher bioavailability
- Research studies test (and praise) the benefits of CBD dosages as large as 600 mg
- A higher potency means you can take less and receive more benefits
- High-potency CBD products actually cost less per milligram of CBD, saving you money
CBD Dosages vs. CBD Potency Levels
“CBD potency levels” refers to how much CBD something contains, be that a serving size or an entire bottle. The CBD dosage is the amount you get in a specific serving. CBD product packaging provides a standard serving size, such as two CBD gummies, with the milligrams of CBD in that serving – i.e. the dosage. But you can, of course, always adjust the dosage by changing the serving size.
Will High-Potency CBD Gummies Get You High?
They shouldn’t. At least, not if they’re used right.
Because when we say “high-potency,” we’re referring to the CBD content, not an increased level of THC. Sure, our high-potency CBD gummies have a couple milligrams of THC, but not enough to get you high if you stick to the recommended CBD dosage of no more than one serving a day. Depending on which full spectrum gummies you’re using, that would mean ingesting only 2 to 4 mg of THC a day.
What About Drug Testing?
While you are unlikely to experience the “high” typically associated with THC, high-potency CBD gummies do contain enough THC to cause you to fail a drug test. According to a 2006 study published by the National Drug Court Institute (NDCI), establishing the detection window for THC mainly depends on two factors: how often you use THC products and how sensitive the test is.
If you occasionally use high-potency CBD, the detectable amount of THC will likely be out of your system within three to seven days, depending on the test. If you regularly use high-potency CBD products, you can expect to wait anywhere from 10 to 21 days for a negative drug screening, depending on the strength of the gummy or tincture and how long you used it for.
However, if you are at all concerned about failing a drug outside those windows, you might want to stop using full spectrum products at least a month in advance, or stick to broad spectrum CBD.
High-Potency CBD Gummies Come in All Concentrations and Specialties
With more CBD per serving than any gummy that’s come before it, our high-potency Full Spectrum CBD Gummies are like none other. Packed with a complete cannabinoid profile, we kept our proprietary full spectrum CBD formula highly concentrated so you get more benefits than ever, for less than might think. Crazy less, in fact.
It would cost you quite a bit more money to accumulate the same overall amount of CBD in a single high-potency product by combining any number of our other products. At full price, our high-potency CBD Gummies cost less than two cents per milligram. Which is crazy in itself, not to mention the fact that you could pay less than a single penny per milligram by buying it on sale.
Costs aside, we used the same manufacturing techniques we’ve always used to develop quality CBD gummies. By infusing, rather than coating, our gummies with all the wonderful cannabinoids and terpenes derived from the Cannabis sativa plant, we can make sure that each and every gummy contains exactly the right amount of cannabinoids.
When we do this, it gives us more control over exactly how much CBD and THC is in every serving, which is what enables us to provide you with various concentrations of the same formula. In other words, if you’re looking for a full spectrum gummy with more or less CBD, we’ve got you covered.
The Original Full Spectrum CBD Gummies
With 200 mg of CBD and 4 mg of THC in every single serving, our tropical twist gummies have set the new standard. By raising the CBD dosage, we’ve made sure that you’re getting every benefit possible out of our proprietary high-potency CBD formula.
Unlike the specialized CBD gummies you’ll read about next, our full spectrum gummies are more versatile, designed to be used for anything and everything. From helping your body recover from a strenuous workout to giving you the pick-me-up you so desperately need to get through that 8 AM meeting on Monday.
Calming High-Potency CBD Gummies
Similar to our full spectrum gummies, our Calm CBD Gummies also contain 200 mg of CBD and 4 mg of THC per serving. What sets them apart is the addition of a whopping 300 mg of Sensoril ashwagandha as well as an entire array of calming herbs, including lemon balm and chamomile.
Hailed for its soothing properties, ashwagandha has long been used in traditional South Asian medicinal practices for a number of reasons, including:
- Increasing memory retention and concentration
- Reducing stress and tension
- Supporting heart health
- Maintaining healthy blood sugar levels
- Supporting immune systems
Sensoril is a branded strain of ashwagandha extract that has been shown to boost energy, manage stress, improve your mood, and help you achieve a better night’s rest. Which is exactly why CBD and ashwagandha are a winning combination to help your mind and body relax at any point in the day.
High Potency CBD Gummies for Sleep
Last but certainly not least are our brand new Full Spectrum CBD Sleep Gummies. Our raspberry CBD gummies will have you snoozing in no time thanks to the combination of our high-potency CBD formula and natural sleep aids such as melatonin, Sensoril ashwagandha, chamomile, and valerian root.
With 50 mg of CBD and 2 mg of THC in every serving, our raspberry gummies are not just delicious, but highly effective as well. Plus, they provide a slower CBD release than our Sleep PM tinctures, which may be a better option for you if you find yourself struggling to stay asleep at night.
Bonus: Delta 9 THC Gummies
At this point, you might believe that our high-potency CBD gummies are the strongest we offer, but that isn’t true. For anyone who wants something a little more, earlier this year we rolled out a line of Delta 9 THC Gummies, where the focus actually is on the THC content.
With 10 mg of THC and over 90 mg of CBD per gummy, our Delta 9 THC formula is the strongest yet. But don’t worry – it’s still completely federally legal. According to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp products must contain less than 0.3 percent THC by dry weight to be considered legal.
And by that math, our Delta 9 THC gummies could actually contain up to 18 mg of THC. But as you can see, we stayed a good distance away from that limit by using just over half the allotted amount of THC.
How Much CBD Is Too Much?
With so many large numbers being tossed around, you might find yourself asking, “How much CBD should I take?” Which is a fair question, considering most of the CBD products that came before maxed out at 50 mg of CBD a serving. But not to worry, our CBD potency levels don’t even come close to reaching a “toxic” CBD dosage.
According to a 2011 study by Current Drug Safety, CBD dosages of up to 1500 mg of CBD a day can be safely tolerated. They even went so far as to determine that CBD only becomes “toxic” once you exceed 200 milligrams per kilogram of bodyweight (or 2.2 pounds for those of us who don’t use the metric system everyday). From here it can be extrapolated that for a 180 lb man to consume a “toxic” dosage, he would have to ingest over 16,300 mg of CBD at once or in a short time span.
Which is leagues away from our 200 mg of CBD per serving. We don’t carry even a single product that contains that much CBD in the whole bottle!
